Essential Question : Should the colonies break away from Great Britain?
After much research and discussion, fourth graders ended their study of the American Revolution with a debate. Students chose which side they would have taken during the American Revolution and created an advertisement, using iMovie on their iPads, persuading the audience to take their side. Students invited adults within the school building to attend the debate. During the debate, three questions were posed to students- Should the colonies break away or stay loyal to Great Britain?, How do you feel about taxes and why?, Convince the opposing side why you can win the war. Fourth graders did a wonderful job supporting their arguments! Some of the many skills fostered through this debate were: * abstract thinking * analytical thinking * citizenship/ethics/etiquette * point of view * distinguishing fact from opinion * organization * persuasion * public speaking * research * teamwork/cooperation * many more!
